(Do not include the brackets). The chiroptera is a closed list composed of bat researchers. To subscribe, send your request to Sue Barnard at batcons@mindspring.com. Q: How do I send messages to my list(s)? A: Send your message to batline@basicallybats.org, or chiroptera@basicallybats.org, or sbdn@basicallybats.org, or gbwg@basicallybats.org Q: There are too many messages. Is there another way to receive them? A: There is a digest mode to which you can subscribe if you are a member of the BATLINE (sorry, no digest for other lists). The Digest is composed of several messages bundled together. You will still get all of the messages sent to the BATLINE, but as one message per day. Simply unsubscribe to the batline, and [re]subscribe to the batline-digest. Q: Will I receive SPAM? A: The lists allow members only to send and receive messages. Therefore, unless a spammer subscribes to one of the lists, spam should not occur. If a member spams a list, he/she will be unsubscribed. However, if a member has a product that can benefit bat workers, the information can be shared with the subscribers as an informative e-mail message, with a brief description of the product and where it can be obtained Q: Will I receive viruses? A: The software protection that we have in place will remove attachments from all messages sent to the BATLINE and CHIROPTERA. This will prevent nearly all virus propagation. However, the SBDN and GBWG are "working" lists and the attachment filter is not set up for these lists. If members of these 2 lists have the slightest doubt about an attachment, DO NOT OPEN IT. However, ALL lists are protect against viruses with the antiviruse program that is in place. Q: Are the messages archived? A: Yes, the messages are archived. To enter the archives, go to http://www.basicallybats.org/MailingLists/. Each list has its own archive: Click on the one you wish to review. If you have other questions or concerns, please send them to Sue Barnard at batcons@mindspring.com. We will update you as changes occur. We hope you will find the BATLINE and other lists helpful. Please tell your colleagues to join us. Thank you.
